Scott Morton

Got married in 1970.
Graduated from SDSU in 1970 and got drafted 6 months later. Luckily avoided Vietnam and got sent to Korea instead, working for Armed Forces Radio & TV.
Got out of the Army in 1972 and went to work at the Naval Electronics Lab in 1972. Split with my wife in 1976, and after dating women again for awhile finally came out gay. In the late 70's, I became disenchanted with crowded southern California, and converted a bus into a motorhome as a means of escape to get out and see the country. Moved with my boyfriend in the bus up to Alaska in 1984. Got a job as the engineer for the public radio station in Homer, Alaska, built a house, and then started a small broadcast-engineering business. Did broadcast engineering for 13 years and then did some oilfield communications work on the north slope thru the early 2000's. My boyfriend and I split up after 20 years. He went to Hawaii, and I knocked around SE Asia for a few years, and ended up in Laos. I'm now retired and living in the village of Ban Pik Noi a few km outside of the city of Luang Prabang in northern Laos.

My favorite story actually happened after graduation in '68. Nick Goodvin and I drove to Ft.Worth in his newly-rebuilt Alfa Romeo 1600, and on the way back the car proceeded to self-destruct in every way imaginable.

I wrote it up for submission to Car Talk's "Car Trip From Hell" competition a few years back. Maybe I'll post it here later.

I haven't seen Nick for over 30 years, and I hope he finds the story as funny as I do.
